INTERVIEW: LILITH VIPER

INTERVIEW: LILITH VIPER

Lilith Viper is a new Melbourne-based label that fuses both classical and modern inspirations, created by fashion graduate Lucy Carlson and tattooist/graphic design graduate Abby Drielsma.

Lilith Viper merges Lucy’s fashion design skills with Abby’s illustration and creative direction. It is both classically romantic, drawing inspiration from past eras, as well as modern and unexpected. The label explores dreamy, feminine, delicate silhouettes, juxtaposed with sexy, edgy and raw elements that when combined give the brand a unique point of view.

We are seriously in love with this label, so had a chat to the girls about LV!

Lilith Viper, a super cool name. What’s the story there?

Lilith came from the the legend of Lilith - she was Adam’s first wife but was banished to hell because she stood above and challenged Adam. A few years ago Abby, another friend of ours & myself nicknamed each other different snake titles, so that’s where Viper came from.

What is ‘Lilith Viper’ to you in just 3 words?

ROMANTIC

FEMININE

PROVOCATIVE

If you could choose ANY three people in the world to dress?

Rihanna (that’s a given!)

Grimes

Charlie XCX - her style is AMAZING!

We LOVE how you incorporate the inspiration of tattoo design into your pieces, how does that come together?

Abby has been tattooing for over 7 years but also has a brief background in both fashion and graphic design. The inspiration she brings to the brand from a tattooing perspective comes from a knowledge and love for classical art, as well as a skill set for incorporating typography and imagery into the garments with a similar mentality to how tattoos are placed on the body to enhance and flatter the body.

Biggest fuck-up/heart-attack you guys have experienced so far?

Well we haven’t had anything go seriously wrong as of yet (touch wood), the closest we’ve come is having one of our favourite pieces lost via posting to a stylist. However it somehow turned up on our doorstep two weeks later. Thank god!

Where do you want to see the brand in five years?

This is such hard question.. I would love to see Lilith Viper at Mercedes Benz fashion week within the next few years. If we can continue to create garments that come from our heart and are produced out of Australia that would be amazing. We’re competing with big fast fashion brands here so as long as we’re staying true to ourselves we’ll be happy.

What do you guys usually like to listen to in the LV headquarters?

It depends on the mood! But lately we’ve been listening to the Stone Roses and a few older bands.
