INTERVIEW: P0GMAN

INTERVIEW: P0GMAN

Introducing P0gman, a UK don of wonky yet heavy-hitting dubstep. His name (honestly what a fun name) has been heavily cemented into the dubstep world over the last few years, with his unique style combining the nostalgia of the UK Dubstep sound with a hard and heavy bounce. He’s released across labels including Never Say Die, Disciple, Uplink, and now has his own label ‘IAMAudio’.

Last week he dropped his latest new single ‘Riot’. We borrowed him to ask some super important questions - like which superhero would win in a 1 v 1, and of course his favourite insult (he’s English, we’ll say no more).

Last movie you watched?

Last movie I watched was Lord Of The Rings 3 Return Of The King. Was on a flight from Philly to Dublin and had 4 hours left. Figured watching this would pretty much take all of that. It’s always been a favourite of mine so it’s always easy to watch again. Frodo is a dickhead tho! Sam is the real don!

Explain ‘P0gman’?

When I was trying to come up with a name years ago I wanted something not so serious. My friend Perm (he makes amazing music under the name Jiu) basically suggested Pogman and i went with it. It’s from the small character on the collectible discs from the 90s called pogs. I went with the number 0 for the O as it seemed cool back then, probably a shit move but oh well haha.

Something weird people call you?

Me and my cousin Jona have pretty much lived our whole lives calling each other fat (it’s fine cause we’re both fat so it’s allowed). On a lads holiday to Magaluf when I was 18 I called him a blob cause he was pissing me off. Somehow that got reversed and became my nickname for ages! Not many people know it but him and a few others have called it me pretty much ever since. Love ya Jona ya fat prick!

Favourite 3 artists right now?

If we’re going dubstep and electronic I would have to say:

Subtronics - his work rate, his work ethic, his DJ skills, his constant pushing of the boundaries

Eptic - everything this guy does from his art to his music and just the fact he’s an awesome dude

Gentleman’s Club - they’re constantly evolving, their live show is amazing and energy is through the roof, oh and they’re all the biggest assholes ever who I will love forever ️

If we’re going any genre, the stuff I’m listening to most right now is Suffer (death metal from UK), Instead (late 80s early 90s hardcore our of SD) and lastly Buju Banton (the reggae/dancehall king)

Spiderman vs Batman - who’s going to win?

Not being a fan of either this is hard but I’m gonna say Batman purely because I like those films better.

The P0gman sound in two words:

Wobbly and Bouncy

Something you’re looking forward to?

I’m playing at Fabric in London on the 22nd of November. Any electronic music fan knows how much this club helped shape the scene in London and how much of a big part it played in the early years of dubstep. This is a massive bucket list thing for me. The fact I’m playing for the Rampage takeover and it’s b2b with my longtime brother Point Blank just adds to the amazingness of the occasion.

Favourite insult?

This is defo a hard one haha. There’s so many to choose from. I really like the simple ones like ‘knob’ or ‘twat’. ‘Bellend’ is probably one I use most tho. I am very English which a lot or people either love or hate haha. Personally I love it so anyone who doesn’t is a bit of a bellend!

3 plane essentials?

Water

Headphones

Whatever book I’m reading at the time

Favourite item on your DJ rider?

Would have to be almonds or green tea. Very boring I know but I have such a stock of almonds now and they are the perfect snack when travelling. My rider used to be filled with alcohol and shit but I’m currently sober again so now I have the boring health ridden rider haha.

One of your resolutions for 2020?

I wanna stay sober and be more healthy minded. I have ups and downs with this stuff but I’m on a real good track right now. I just want more positivity in my life and will keep pushing forward on being grateful for the little things rather than piss and moan about stuff that only brings negativity and bad vibes.
